NINE of the club's juvenile athletes made the journey to Glasgow's Kelvin Hall for the Scottish Championships at the weekend.

For most, it was their first exposure to the full indoor experience, with a banked 200m track.

Becky Wall was the star of the weekend, improving on her bronze medal from last year with silver this year in the U 17 4kg shot which she putt out to 9.54m, just missing out on gold by 4cm.

Well done to 14 year old Mieke Kiernan who also did well in U 17 Shot.

Peter O'Brien cleared 1.70m in the U 17 High Jump, but a back injury prevented him improving on his best of 1.73.

Keira Lynch had a busy day on Saturday, making the final of the 300m and the semis of the 200m.

Well done to her and to Naoise Delaney who also ran the 300m and 200m.

On Sunday it was the turn of the first timers, all of whom competed at the U15 level.

Orla Comerford just missed on the 60mH final, finishing 7th overall.

Holly Ryan, Kate O'Hanrahan and Niamh O'Connor all ran both the 60m and 200m with several personal bests recorded.

The first round of the Inter Club Juvenile Spring Series took place yesterday in Santry.  Athletes from Raheny, Clonliffe, Skerries and Lusk A/C competed.  While the attendance of Raheny athletes was disappointing, those who did take part represented us very well. 

Running in the U12 800m were Triona Nic Dhonaill, Ciara Loughran, Martha Delaney and Sophie O’Riordan.  Hannah Byrne ran a great race to finish  2^nd in the U14 girls 1000m as did Fiachra O’Flynn in the boys 1000m. 

In the U15/U16 1500m, Paddy O’Donnell sat comfortably in 2^nd position until he reached the final 300m.   At this point, he passed the leader and won the race very comfortably.  Cathal O’Clerigh finished in 4^th position, while David McMorrow also ran a good race. We finished the day with some 4X100m relays with the Raheny team of Cathal, Fiachra, Paddy and David winning the U16’s.

Thanks to coaches Anne Buckley and Dara MacDonaill for helping us out.  Well done to Noel Guidan and Gladys Cooper from the host club Clonliffe Harriers – it was a great day.  See you all next Sunday in St. Anne’s for the  second round. The action begins at 11am

Following on from the success of our senior athletes in the Odyssey and in the recent Inter Club Cross Country, many of our upcoming star athletes were competing in the Dublin Juvenile Indoor Championships over the past two weekends.  As is becoming the norm for our juvenile athletes, medals were bagged in the various disciplines of our sport.  A total of 18 individual medals were won – 6 gold, 8 silver and 4 bronze, along with 3 golds in the relays, 2 silver and 2 bronze.

Meanwhile, many of our juvenile athletes were competing on behalf of their school Scoil Aine in the Dublin North Central/East Dublin City Council primary schools cross country today in St. Anne’s Park.  Nicole Crowley won the 3^rd class 300m race, Aine Osborne won the 4^th class 400m, Anna Murphy finished 2^nd in the 5^th class 600m and Laura Cleary finished 3^rd in the 6^th class 800m.  Scoil Aine girls won 3 of the 4 girl’s races.  Well done to all our club juvenile members who took part.
