A piercingly cold eastern wind failed to have any effect on Raheny’s top junior distance runner Kevin Dooney who totally dominated proceedings at the Leinster schools Cross Country championships in Santry today.  Running in the colours of his school CBC Monkstown Dooney opened up a huge gap shortly before halfway. Conscious of his commitment to the Enniscorthy 10K next Sunday, he could afford to take his foot off the accelerator on the final lap yet was never threatened.

Cillian Kirwan ran a magnificent race to secure second place in the Intermediate boys race and leading his school St Fintan’s to silver medals. In fact they only lost gold on the countback.

Adam Foley, in the colours of Ard Scoil Ris, proved his recent victory in the Raheny U16 Mile was no fluke with a ground breaking sixth place and qualification for his first All Ireland Schools CC.

Holy Faith Clontarf’s finest servants, Alice Fennell and Chloe Doran were 5th and 6th respectively in a high quality Senior Girls event while Ellen O’Hanlon was a strong 12th in the longer Intermediate event.

The All Ireland Schools are scheduled for Galway on March 10th.
